THE SKY IS FALLING!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!
Will all of you whiney doom-sayers just shut up already?! The Large Hadron Collider experiment has absolutely NOTHING to do with creating a miniature black hole. The experiment's purpose is to create, on a quantum level, matter identical to that which came into being fractions of a second after the big bang occurred.
Nothing is going to happen. The world is not going to end. There's nothing to freak out about.
It is literally impossible for the LHC to create a black hole. It would take a particle accelerator about the size of the solar system to do this. I don't know where the black hole rumor began, but it is utterly ludicrous. Anyone who knows anything about general relativity and quantum mechanics would know that this experiment could harm no one whatsoever.
I am SO sick of hearing the constant apocalyptic superstitions about this. I've heard ridiculous predictions from several people I know personally, including those who attribute their theories to astrology, tarot cards, even Christianity.
Did it ever occur to anyone that if there was a remote possibility of creating some microscopic anomaly that could destroy the earth, then the experiment would NOT be allowed to take place? Does everyone honestly believe that the people involved are a bunch of Frankensteinian mad scientists who don't care if they destroy the world? Right, because all scientists are just cold, logical and emotionless, and they don't give a fuck about what happens to humanity. Did every one just up and forget that purely because of scientific and technological progress, the average human life expectancy has doubled in the last 50 years?
If you're really looking to demonize science, prophesize about the end of the world and gain support for your own personal metaphysical beliefs, try this: Provide a wee bit of EVIDENCE for your ideas. Until then, just shut up.
Sorry if I'm being an ass but good lord, study up on what you spout about before you spout it and stop trying to cause a panic, PLEASE...
That's all,
